Have you tried anything new lately? If given the opportunity to try something new right now...say learning a new technique that would help you work more productively...would you:
A) Jump at the chance to be first?
B) Wait until someone else tries it, then do it?
C) Or have to be pushed and prodded to try anything new?
Many people are very resistant to change, challenge, anything new or different. Mark Twain said it best: "Why go out on a limb? That's where the fruit is." There is always something new to see, to hear, to taste, to experience. There are opportunities all around you. So, live it up and try new things. Here are the "High Fives" for pursuing success, self-discovery, and FUN in life:

Have the courage to try a different haircut, a new restaurant, a new type of volunteerism, or a fresh view. Look at things differently and put ideas together in an unconventional way.
How can you experiment with something new?

Venture out and explore a local flea market, the woods nearby, or a new internet site. Travel to sites around town, off the beaten path, or to exotic places. The desire to learn requires inspiration.
What do you want to explore?

Books can take you on wonderful adventures to learn about places, cultures, situations, events, and people. Creative or critical thinking requires an influx of new ideas.

This is not a school word. It is a life word. The mind is a terrible thing to waste. Take a class and study an interesting subject. Go shopping to study prices and value. Write in a journal and study the fabric of your own life. Understanding requires knowledge of facts.
What would you like to study?

Tony Robbins, motivational speaker and author, says: "Repetition is the mother of skill." Successful performance requires practice. Practice the skills of a sport, the creativity of writing, the techniques of conflict resolution, the art of pie making. Performance requires mastery of skills.

It's really very simple. Just five steps for trying new things. Choose to do these steps--experiment, explore, read, study, and practice--over and over again. These steps will lead you to being more successful, finding your talents, and having about as much FUN in life as you possibly can.
Or try forgotten things that used to bring you pleasure.
- Play a song that makes you want to swing your body. Be footloose and dance like nobody is watching. It's a great release of physical tension and it's good exercise.
- Remember art. Get out the craft supplies or magic markers or paints and have some fun. Take a sketchbook to the park and look for inspiration.
- Keep your eye on the ball...the football, soccer ball, volleyball, beach ball, tennis ball, golf ball, cue ball, softball, baseball, bowling ball, or basketball. So many choices. Play ball.
- Move your body. Run, walk, skate, or ride a bike around the block, around the track, through the woods, to grandmother's house.
- Play! Take your shoes off and splash around in a creek, climb a tree, play a board or card game, host a theme party. The playground is anywhere, everywhere.
- Call a friend and try something new together. Take a class, take a hike, join a club, go to the gym. Just do it.
Remember--you are uniquely designed to be creative, social, and physical. Trying something new or forgotten might force you to use undeveloped talents--abilities you never knew you had. It can keep your brain tuned up, your body fit and your relationships lively.
Everyday new possibilities emerge and there are new risks to be taken. Seeing new possibilities and taking some chances can make your life richer and make you a more interesting person.
